Aldona wins the Early Career Research Award in Dresden

romanaschirhagl

Our former postdoc receives the Early Career Research Award at this years 34th International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials for her work in the group as well as her current work at DTU in Denmark. I had the great pleasure to be in the audience when she gave her talk in Dresden last week.

Nanodiamonds as labels for integrated microscopy

integrated_microscopy.png

Integrated microscopy combines electron microscopy (EM) with light microscopy. However, conventional dyes bleach during the sample preparation for EM. NV centers in diamond, however, are protected within the lattice and thus remain fluorescent. As a result one can at the same time label cells optically and investigate the membrane structure. We can learn from this were diamond particles are within cells.
