How do we treat the untreatable?

romanaschirhagl

This question is what drives the research of our new postdoc Adela Melcrova who is proposing a new way to reverse antibiotic resistance and new ways to study antibiotic resistance on a single cell level. Adelas project that will be conducted in our group has been selected by the PAR foundation in an incredibly selective procedure (just 2 out of 171 projects have been granted in the science category) and we are honored to host this project! If you want to hear more about the project you can watch the announcement on the youtube channel of the PAR foundation: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChlc2Ug0QyoUkf7XLxK_7xg

Nanodiamonds as labels for integrated microscopy

integrated_microscopy.png

Integrated microscopy combines electron microscopy (EM) with light microscopy. However, conventional dyes bleach during the sample preparation for EM. NV centers in diamond, however, are protected within the lattice and thus remain fluorescent. As a result one can at the same time label cells optically and investigate the membrane structure. We can learn from this were diamond particles are within cells.
